Pipeline flotation in liquefied sand: A simplified transient model

نویسندگان

چکیده

Submarine buried pipelines are often laid in trenches backfilled with loose sandy soil, which is intrinsically prone to liquefaction. When liquefaction triggered, the soil tends behave as a viscous fluid vanishing shear strength and very limited ability restrain structural displacement, for instance during occurrence of pipeline flotation. Recently, 2D CFD-based approach analysis pipe flotation liquefied sand has been proposed by Pisano et al. (2020), reconsolidation effects phenomenologically captured considering rheological parameters that evolve space time pore water pressures dissipate. Despite remarkable agreement experimental data from literature, complexity computational costs such may still hinder its applicability engineering practice. To overcome this limitation, simplified model herein, all forces governing motion expressed via simple analytical relationships. After thorough validation against CFD results relevant data, it concluded new largely retains predictive capability al.’s framework combination negligible costs.

Liquefied Residual Strength of Undrained Sand upon A Parametric Approach to Hypo-elastic Model

A parametric study approach evaluating drained/undrained behavior of sand has been developed as a simple/quick hypo-elastic model capable of being used in engineering applications. The volumetric interaction of sand grains behavior against pore water pressure induces the tendency of soil mass volume change to contract/dilate due to variation of effective mean stress on solid grain, pore water p...

a Simplified Model of Distributed Parameter Systems

A generalized simplified model for describing the dynamic behavior of distributed parameter systems is proposed. The various specific characteristics of gain and phase angle of distributed parameter systems are investigated from frequency response formulation and complex plane representation of the proposed simplified model. Construction of simplified design p–y curves for liquefied soils

In practice, laterally loaded piles are most often analysed using a ‘beam-on-non-linear-Winklerfoundation’ approach, whereby the soil–structure interaction is modelled by means of p–y curves. Although well-calibrated p–y curves exist for non-liquefied soils (e.g. soft clay and sand), the profession still lacks reliable p–y curves for liquefied soils. In fact, the latter should be consistent wit...

Optimizing Pipeline Control in Transient Gas Flow

Consider a pipeline with time dependent delivery volumes at various load points. Such a system can be controlled by changing with time the pressure setpoints at stations to manipulate flow and linepack. We present an algorithm that computes an optimum set of time-varying setpoint values (out to a user-specified simulation horizon) simultaneously for all stations. These setpoint values are compu...

A simplified HDR image processing pipeline for digital photography

High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging has revolutionized the digital imaging. It allows capture, storage, manipulation, and display of full dynamic range of the captured scene. As a result, it has spawned whole new possibilities for digital photography, from photorealistic to hyper-real. With all these advantages, the technique is expected to replace the conventional 8-bit Low Dynamic Range (LDR) im...
